Triathlon Terms Defined

Olympic Distance Triathlons=1.5k swim, 40k bike, 10k run
70.3 (or halfs)= 1.9k swim, 90k bike, 21k run (or 1.2 mi, 56mi, 13.1mi=70.3mi)
ITU=International Triathlon Union, the governing body for the Olympic distance World Cup/Championship races
Bonking=when an athletes glycogen stores in the muscles are depleted to the point that the athlete is useless!! Not fun! Usually due to poorly planned nutritition in training or racing
T1/T2=transition 1-swim to bike, transition 2-bike to run
BRICK=a bike/run workout. These are used to practise the transition from the bike to the run in a race.
PB/PR=Personal Best/Personal Record
HR=Heart Rate
Fartlek=a training run where you vary your speed throughout
TT=time trial, usually refers to non-draft biking
